Here are a couple of our favourite options when it comes to beachfront accommodation in Mount Maunganui
Where to Stay in Mount Maunganui
Mount Maunganui sits on a narrow spit, with the ocean surf beach on one side, the sheltered harbour on the other, and Mauao rising at the end. Where you base yourself decides how much you’ll walk and what’s on your doorstep.
Downtown, around Main Beach and Maunganui Road, is the most walkable. You’re a few minutes from the surf and the main run of cafes, restaurants, and shops, so most guests leave the car parked all week. Pilot Bay, just across the spit on the harbour side, has calm, flat water and a pier, which makes it easier for young kids and early swims, and it’s a short stroll over to the ocean beach. Papamoa, a little further down the coast, is quieter and more residential, with larger homes, its own cafes and shops, and a long, flat beach that runs for kilometres.
Wherever you choose to land, booking direct through Five Star Focused gets you the best rate, flexible check-in, and a local team on hand right through your stay.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes! Many of our holiday homes comfortably sleep six or more guests, making them ideal for families travelling with multiple children or groups combining with another family for the week.
Most of our Mount Maunganui accommodation is only a short walk from the beach, cafes, and local attractions. Whether you want ocean views, a spa pool, or easy access to Pilot Bay, we have options to suit your stay.
Absolutely. While we specialise in boutique holiday homes, we also offer affordable Mount Maunganui and Papamoa accommodation options without compromising on quality or service.
It depends on your trip. Downtown, around Main Beach and Maunganui Road, keeps you within walking distance of everything the Mount has to offer. Pilot Bay, on the harbour side, has calm water that’s great for young kids. Papamoa, just along the coast, trades the buzz for bigger homes, quieter streets, and a longer stretch of beach.
Tauranga Airport sits about 3km from the heart of the Mount, roughly a 5 to 10 minute drive, so you can be checked in and on the sand not long after you land. A taxi or rideshare is quick and easy, and there’s a local bus if you’d rather not drive.
The longer the better! 5-7 days is the sweet spot in our opinion, as this gives you plenty of time to explore everything Mount Maunganui has to offer.
Summer, from December to February, is the classic choice, with warm days, long evenings, and the beach at its best. For mild weather, autumn is a lovely time to visit, and you’ll often find better availability and rates on the best homes.
